When a World Cup team loses its star player, like Ivory Coast have in Didier Drogba, one might expect their betting odds to take a walk in the market. However the markets have been relatively unaffected by the staggering elbow injury suffered by the Ivory Coast star.
Currently available at around 48/1, the reason their odds have not been affected is their tough looking group and their probable opponents should they have progressed to the round of 16.
Qualifying from their group was no shoe-in even with Drogba where they realistically faced a battle with Portugal to finish second behind Brazil. had they progress then they would have most likely to met tournament favourites Spain in the round of 16.
Betting interest could now surround their progression out of the group with the Africans currently 8/11 on Betfair to be going home after just three matches while Portugal have strengthened to second favourites on Betfair to finish second behind Brazil.
There is also betting on Ivory Coast's leading scorer with Salomon Kalou and Aruna Dindane now battling out favouritism.
