Edinson Cavani - Players to watch in South Africa

Edinson Roberto Cavani Gomez or simply Edinson Cavani was born in Salto, Uruguay on February 14th 1987 and is a player who is sure to impress in the upcoming World Cup.

Cavani is currently in Italy with Palermo but despite the fact he appears to have a long-term deal with the club recent links to Manchester City and Internazionale are not to be ignored. Rosanera coach Dellio Rossi has said: “ Cavani is an important player,” a slight understatement perhaps as his form for his club has been exceptional for the last two seasons in Serie A. The tall athletic striker has grabbed 14 goals in 36 games this term although that does not tell the whole story. Cavani is not a goal-poaching type but an all action workaholic who gets involved in all areas of the park.

Some players look tailor-made to catch the eye at the World Cup and Cavani with his long flowing locks will not be difficult to pick out. However it is not enough to catch the eye unless you can back this up with talent. Cavani plays with plenty of width and take intelligent positions in the channels to get free. He is a swashbuckling type but just when you think there is a little too much huffing and puffing he can conjure up the exquisite. He scores great goals.

Cavani has only recently broken into the Uruguay national side but his coach already has nothing but praise for him. Celeste’s Gustavo Ferrin said: “He is a very hard-working player. He’s a great goal-scorer, but he pushes his teammates.”

A great attitude, brilliant skill and perhaps the most important thing of all, his trademark lovely long hairstyle, will mean that he cannot be ignored this summer.
