Tottenham manager Harry 'Del-boy' Redknapp came out over the weekend talking up Peter Crouch's claim to a World Cup spot, despite not picking him to play for Spurs recently.
The robot has scored 20 times in 37 appearances for the national team, however, and Redknapp thinks this is reason enough to put him on the flight down to South Africa.
"Crouch has to go to the World Cup," Redknapp said. "He seems to score every time he plays for England, he leads the line well, holds the ball up and wins every header."
"He gives you something completely different when games are tight," Redknapp continued.
"You can play long balls to him, he will win headers and help other players to get around the second ball and open packed defences.
I think both he and Defoe will go to the World Cup."
Now, I have a few points to make.
First of all, why isn't Crouch getting a game at Spurs?
The reason is because he's been found wanting too many times this season, lastly against Fulham in the the cup when he had another shocker.
Secondly, what's wrong with Redknapp's simple maths? 20 goals in 37 games and yet "he seems to score EVERY time he plays for England."
Hmmm, ok Harry.
And thirdly, Redknapp mentions the headers that he wins. What he fails to mention is that the ref blows up for a foul against the big man almost every time he wins one of those balls in the air. Whether or not he's actually fouling is irrelevant, the ref sees it as climbing on the defender and the foul is awarded.
Quite simply, I don't believe Crouch is half as good as some people make him out to be, and shouldn't be an automatic choice for inclusion in the England squad.
Your thoughts please....

I agree with Mr Mole I agree with you Kris, Crouch is nowhere near as good as people make him out to be. I think this was proven when Rafa "I must be on crack or something" Benitez signed him, look at the crock of shit he's signed for 'pool. He was very ordinary against my Leeds boys in the FA Cup (Defoe tore us apart) and when I've seen him on TV this season there is something missing from him. His touch is awful, he's actually quite crap at heading despite being as tall as he is but who else do we have? |
